Moving towards Motherhood – An Overview
First Trimester

What you should do
- First prenatal checkup
- Start on Folic Acid
- Avoid over the counter medicines
- Restrict travel and strenuous work

What to expect at Doctors visit
- Ultrasound for confirmation
- First Trimester Blood work
- Check Medical condition and/or medicines
- Discuss need for Genetic Counseling

What to expect at Doctors visit
- First Trimester Screening (USG and double marker)
- Discuss need for CVS

What you should do
- Prenatal check every 3 weeks
- Eat extra 300 cal per day


Second Trimester


What you should do
- Enroll for prenatal program
- Start iron, calcium supplements
What to expect at Doctors visit
- Second Trimester Screening (Triple Marker)
- Discuss need for Amniocentesis

What to expect at Doctors visit
- Ultrasound TIFFA (targeted imaging for fetal anomalies)
- Fetal 2D Echo, if required
- Vaccination – 1st Dose

- Maintain a Healthy Diet
- Continue iron, calcium supplements

Third Trimester

- Fortnightly prenatal check
- Consider Cord Blood Banking

- Blood Work incl. Glucose tolerance
- USG, if previous history of BP

What to expect at Doctors visit
- USG for fetal growth
- Monitor BP and weight gain


What you should do
- Weekly checks from 36 Weeks
- Monitor baby movements
- Restrict Travel

What you should do
- Watch for contraction
- Monitor baby movements
- Have your delivery kit ready

- Explain signs/symptoms of labour
- Colour Doppler USG, if needed
- Non stress test
